Packaging with Purpose: Bryan Machado of Navin Plast Talks Innovation, Impact, and Sustainability with Food Marketing & Technology Magazine

When one hears about food packaging, utility comes to mind — boxes, containers, perhaps labels. But for Navin Plast’s Founder Bryan Machado, it’s so much more than that. It’s solving actual issues, staying ahead of evolving food trends, and designing packaging that not only contains a product but also tells a story. In a recent interview in the Aahar Special Edition (March 2025) of Food Marketing & Technology Magazine, Machado shared what motivates Navin Plast and how considerate packaging can indeed influence consumer experience and business development.

Why Packaging Is a Science — Especially in Bakery

“It’s not just about putting cake in a box,” Machado shared. “It’s about making sure the packaging works for the product, the business, and the customer.”He explained how different types of bakeries — from large commercial setups to small local stores — have unique needs. Navin Plast takes a step-by-step approach, focusing on structure, quality, and usability. The goal? To make packaging that’s not just functional, but a key part of the product experience.

Customised for Everyone, Not Just Big Brands

One of the things Machado is most proud of is how accessible Navin Plast’s solutions are. “We wanted to make sure smaller businesses — the neighborhood bakeries, the local sweet shops — had access to high-quality, customised packaging too.”It turns out, cake boxes aren’t just for cakes anymore. They’re being used to pack chocolates, dry fruits, even mithai. And Navin Plast is making sure that no matter the scale, businesses get packaging that fits their story.

More Than Just Looks — The Real Value of Good Packaging

While beautiful packaging is nice to look at, Machado explained there’s more at play here. Transparent plastic cups, for instance, don’t just look good — they let customers see the rich layers of cake inside, making the product more tempting.

“Yes, they cost about 30% more than paper cups,” he admitted, “but that visual appeal often leads to higher sales. It’s not just packaging — it’s presentation with purpose.”

The Story Behind ‘Cake in a Box’

One of Navin Plast’s most loved ideas is the ‘Cake in a Box’ — a simple, yet smart solution that took off during the pandemic, when people were celebrating in smaller groups.

“We noticed people still wanted to enjoy cakes, but not the big ones. So we created a box with a perfectly portioned cake, ready to go,” Machado recalled. It started with cakes, but soon, customers began using the same boxes for chocolates and dry fruits too. A great example of how a small idea can have a big impact.

Plastic, But With a Conscience

Machado didn’t shy away from the sustainability conversation either. “We know the concerns around plastic,” he said. Navin Plast has committed itself to ensuring proper disposal and reuse mechanisms are in place. For Machado, it is not merely producing products — it is producing them responsibly.

At its core, Navin Plast is reinventing packaging as much more than an afterthought, but rather as medium for storytelling, branding, and rich connection between consumer and product. And with Bryan Machado leading the way, it’s clear that the future of food packaging is not only practical — it’s personal.
